Take everything seriously
Photograph each current cabinet before emptying it. Group baking, breakfast, beverages, food preparation, cookware, dishes, entertaining and cleaning. Include items currently stranded on counters because they have no useful home.
Measure sheet pans, stockpots, mixers, pet-food containers and small appliances. Those awkward objects determine more cabinet decisions than a stack of dinner plates.

Place by point of use
Dishes belong near the dishwasher; knives and preparation tools belong near clear prep space; coffee supplies belong together; trash and recycling should support both cleanup and preparation.
Keep occasional entertaining pieces away from prime everyday storage. Put heavy objects between knee and shoulder height when possible.

Buy fewer, better accessories
A divider, rollout or pullout is worthwhile when it eliminates reaching, stacking or repeated countertop clutter. An accessory chosen only because it looked clever can consume valuable flexible space.
Review the completed cabinet list against the inventory. Every major group should have a believable home before the order is approved.
